Mindy Kaling Loves It When You Call Her a Fat Sea Monster

Kimmel admitted that as he’s lost weight, those around him are insistent upon complimenting him for it and mentioning it. Kaling talked about how people discuss her body in the context of other actors, most of whom are thinner than she is:

I am also the recipient of a lot of kind of backhanded compliments about it. People are like, “It’s so nice that Mindy Kaling doesn’t feel like she needs to subscribe to the ideas of beauty that other people do.” And I’m like, I do subscribe! They’re like, “It’s so refreshing that Mindy feels comfortable to let herself go and be a fat sea monster.” I, by the way, I like, run and work out. It take a lot of effort to look like a normal/chubby woman. But I’m not like…the way they talk about it is like, “She’s a pioneer because she’s glued to her sofa!”

Kaling also discussed how great it is to make out with all the guys she casts on her show (“I kiss handsome actors and then they leave so I don’t have to find out about March Madness and all that crap I don’t care about”), how her name “photobombed” Kim and Kanye’s Vogue cover and how, “It’s hard, when you’re a narcissistic, vain person but you want to be a role model.” This woman gives a good interview.
