Lin-Manuel Miranda’s lyrics have apparently become more popular on Google than the Federalist Papers.
A former investment banker named Oliver Rosenberg challenged New York Rep. Jerrold Nadler for his seat this campaign season. On Monday, Rosenberg attempted to stir the constituency with a rousing quote from Alexander Hamilton at a debate that aired on WYNC. CNN reports that he played himself:
“As Alexander Hamilton says, ‘This is not a moment, this is the movement,’” Oliver Rosenberg said… “‘Foes oppose us. We take an honest stand. We roll like Moses claiming our promised land.’ Rise up, rise up and vote.”
Hamilton did say that, in the sense that Lin-Manuel Miranda completely made it up for the hit Broadway show Hamilton, in the song “My Shot.” It’s possible that Rosenberg is hipper than he seems and was trying to reach young voters with a timely reference, but it doesn’t seem to have worked. He lost on Tuesday.
