Amanda Bynes, who has only gingerly returned to the public eye after a meltdown and DUI arrest in 2014, told Paper that the first of many of her problems can be traced back to the film She’s the Man. Specifically, that she did not care for the way she looked as a dude. From Paper:
“When the movie came out and I saw it,” she says, “I went into a deep depression for 4-6 months because I didn’t like how I looked when I was a boy.” She paused. “I’ve never told anyone that.” Seeing herself with short hair and sideburns was “a super strange and out-of-body experience. It just really put me into a funk.”
Bynes has said that she intends to start acting again, though if dressing up as a boy was that troubling to her, she should definitely ignore the many fans calling for a sequel.
