Last night, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association — the organization behind the Golden Globes — held its annual Grants Banquet in Beverly Hills. They raised nearly $2 for charity and ate lunch! It was fun, I bet.
And stars flocked to it, as is their wont, dressed in beautiful formal wear (and some kinda boring formal wear). Let’s take a look:
Sofia Vergara looked v. sultry in a slinky red maxidress with fishnet detailing (sort of an illusion crop top situation going on there, which I heartily approve of). Apparently, the dress is only $58 but I feel there are very few people who could pull it off as well as she does.
Elle Fanning continues being a Young and Precocious Fashionista and a gorgeous, sculptural Vivienne Westwood dress. There’s a lot going on, between the neckline and darted hem and the iconic print, so she wisely kept it minimalistic on the hair/makeup/accessories front.
Here is Hailee Steinfeld in a flared A.P.C. dress with a leather trim. For me, the overall effect is too casual but she does look stunning, as usual.
Kristen Bell wore a Andrew Gn gown with a beaded bodice and chiffon skirt (it didn’t photograph well, I fear; here‘s a photo of it on the runway for full effect) and looked very glamorous indeed.
Pretty, pastel, feminine: Katherine McNamara in a floral tunic dress by Ted Baker London, Jenny Slate in a shimmery pink tea-length dress, and Dasha Herman in a one-sleeved orange gown with a mermaid skirt (A LOT GOING ON THERE).
Lookin’ elegant in blue, we have Gina Rodriguez in a long-sleeved cobalt dress, Minnie Driver in a halter top with a mullet skirt, aand Anne Jeffreys in the Best Jacket of All Time.
Womyn in suits! Abigail Spencer looks very classy in Dolce and Gabbana; Rose McGowan has the same idea, but with a kind of Hot-Topic-y execution; Chaz Ebert keeps it simple in a sheath dress and cardigan.
Shades of grey: Jessica Parker Kennedy in a gorgeous strapless printed dress; Patricia Arquette wearing my dream red carpet outfit; JoBeth Williams in tiger print.
Anne Heche (with partner James Tupper) wore a beauteous formal pantsuit; Franka Potente wore a dignified LBD.
MEN: Channing Tatum looks goooood in a suit; Eddie Redmayne does not wear formalwear as well as Channing, but we can’t all be Channing; Robert Pattinson is rolling his eyes, I think, in a very Pattinsonian manner.
Suits I Like Less: James Marsden has TOO MUCH GREY and I disapprove of the shoes (but he’s very cute); Nick Jonas‘ look is boring, Dan Bucatinsky is close to power-clashing his patterns but not quite there.
