This month Pope Benedict will canonize Mary MacKillop, making her Australia’s first native-born saint. She’s been dubbed the “Patron Saint of Whistleblowers” due to her 1871 excommunication for denouncing priests that abuse children, but the Vatican is downplaying that misstep.
