Here We Present Our Ex-Boyfriend Noah Centineo, Now Starring in Another Netflix Romantic Comedy

EntertainmentMovies

Shameless Instagram thirst monster and collective Jezebel ex Noah Centineo is doing his best to get permanently typecast as Netflix’s romcom hero, which is fine! He is very good at looking tousled and cute and slightly confused, as he proved admirably in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, if slightly less admirably in Sierra Burgess Is A Loser. Up next: The Perfect Date, in which Centineo will get high school girls to pay him to escort them to proms so he can afford Yale tuition. 2019 is just full of twists.

Netflix dropped the above trailer for The Perfect Date on Tuesday, and it has everything: high stakes, intrigue, fast cars, combat boots, class struggle, the promise of Ivy League education, unexpected love, a Riverdale castmember (Camila Mendes), a main character named “Brooks Rattigan.” Brooks! Rattigan! It’s like they cooked it up in the same lab Donna Tartt used to make The Secret History.

Here’s the plot summary, courtesy Indiewire:

Brooks Rattigan (Noah Centineo) has the academic chops to get into his dream Ivy League school, but what he’s missing is an outstanding extracurricular — and the money. When he seizes on an opportunity to make some extra cash by posing as the boyfriend of a self-assured, combat boot-loving girl named Celia Lieberman (Laura Marano), he finds he has a knack for being the perfect stand-in. Together with his programmer friend Murph (Odiseas Georgiadis), Brooks launches an app selling himself as a plus-one for all occasions. Along the way, he meets the girl of his dreams (Camila Mendes). But when business starts to boom, Brooks must reassess everything he was once sure of.

The Perfect Date is helmed by the same production company that did To All the Boys I Loved Before, which is promising, though I can’t say the above synopsis (Brooks! Rattigan!) stands to outshine the latter. You can decide for yourself soon enough—The Perfect Date drops on April 12.
