Joanna Newsom, Beloved Warbling Wood Nymph, Announces New Album

Entertainment

This October, beloved folk musician Joanna Newsom will release Divers, her first studio album since 2010’s Have One On Me. Accompanying the news, Newsom has also put out a new video—directed by Paul Thomas Anderson—for the song “Sapokanikan” which features her walking and singing through New York City.

Longtime fans will be happy to know that Newsom’s signature trill—part Appalachian balladeer, part renaissance troubadour, and part fairy queen—remains intact and that, like Newsom’s musical style, Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Sapokanikan” video ignores flash and distractions, instead focusing on Newsom and her raw talent.

As Drag City, Newsom’s record label, announced on their website:

“…further along and down the road apiece from where she took her leave of us, Joanna Newsom plays on. Breathe deep and equalize your today-ears to the new world of Divers…”

Divers comes out October 23, 2015.
