Kacey Musgraves, Country Queen, Is Now a Disco Queen

Entertainment

Why don’t you giddy up, giddy up, and come listen to this perfect song?

Kacey Musgraves just dropped the new song “High Horse” from her forthcoming album Golden Hour, which I’ll remind you is reportedly a “trippy” album that she lowkey recorded above Sheryl Crow’s horse stable. And while her first two singles, “Space Cowboy” and “Butterflies,” sounded more like classic country Musgraves, “High Horse” is a disco kiss-off.

“Darling, you take the high horse and I’ll take the high road,” she sings. “If you’re too good for us you’ll be good riding solo.” While on Beats 1 radio, she said that she “was intrigued by a world where Bee Gees meets country music.” It’s not that dramatic of a turn for Musgraves’ music, but perhaps enough to have the country music community screaming about how everyone is a little too pop these days.

All I can say is: Kylie Minogue, you better sleep with one eye open.
