Amber Heard’s divorce and domestic abuse case against her soon-to-be ex-husband Johnny Depp has begun — sort of. Although she arrived for her deposition on Saturday, August 6, she never testified, and there are conflicting reports as to what obstructed the proceedings.
TMZ reported that Heard arrived at 11:30 a.m. for the deposition—an hour and a half late—and did not leave until 9 p.m. However, she never set foot in the room where the meeting was held, nor did she answer any questions. Heard’s team claims that they were waylaid by the paparazzi, but others argue that the celebrity was aware they would be present.
This afternoon, Heard’s lawyers vehemently denied reports that she had refused to engage in the hearing. In fact, they claim that she was prepared to testify all day:
“Although she was ready, willing, and able to go forward with her deposition , it was not taken by Johnny’s attorneys. She waited for 10 hours and at no time did Amber ever refuse to start the deposition. There was nothing preventing Johnny’s counsel from commencing the deposition.”
The situation is perplexing, because not only were Depp’s lawyers all present, but so were a court reporter and videographer. And now Depp, who was supposed to testify on Wednesday, will not be able to do so.
