Lee Daniels Apologizes for Calling Sean Penn An Abuser, Settles Lawsuit

Latest

After quoting Spicoli in court papers and referring to Sean Penn’s defamation lawsuit against him as “bogus,” Empire creator Lee Daniels has changed his tune and decided to settle.

Daniels’ stack of Empire money will get slightly smaller, though the amount of the settlement is unknown. Penn filed a $10 million defamation lawsuit in September 2015, after Daniels made a comment about the actor’s alleged abuse of women in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last year.

The settlement announced on Wednesday involves a robotic formal apology on Daniels’ end and a donation to Penn’s Haitian Relief Organization.

Daniels said in a statement, “I am sorry that I have hurt you Sean, and I apologize and retract my reckless statements about you.” 🙂

Penn graciously said: “I accept Lee’s heartfelt apology and appreciate the sincerity with which it was delivered.” Yes, this is all very legally sincere.
