Madonna Needs More Cash for Her Movie, STAT
They gave a biopic to each Beatle but can’t spare one for the Queen of Pop?

For years, we’ve heard rumblings and whispers about a potential Madonna movie, but as the years came and went, the only biopics Hollywood churned out were more movies about boring white dudes. Sorry, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, but where is Madonna? Now, we’re finally getting answers from the woman herself.
In her 11th interview with Mel Ottenberg of Interview Magazine, Madonna opened up about the years-long struggle she’s had making a movie about her life. I usually take a hard stance against musician biopics (because I think they are 100% derivative slop cash grabs), but Madonna is different, especially given that she is attempting to write and produce it herself, in true Madonna fashion. Turns out, not even Madonna can get a movie into production in 2026. For shame.
“I was supposed to make a movie about my life. I worked on my script for two years and spent two years at Universal Studios with the line producers doing budgeting and casting,” Madonna told Interview. “We had a falling out, me and Universal, regarding budget because I needed—I’ve had an extraordinary life. I’ve had a huge life, so I needed a big budget.” I don’t understand how Universal could F this up. Just take all the money you were going to spend on Shrek 6 and give it to her, you cowards.
Madonna went on to say that she “found a way to make it for less money in Serbia,” but that Universal expressed doubts, apparently telling her “We don’t believe you’d stay in Serbia more than four days.” The falling-out ended with Madonna having to buy back the rights to the script she had written to pursue deals with other studios.
“I was in limbo when that fell apart,” she added, “and then Netflix reached out to make a series. That was a whole other long process, because I couldn’t use the script I had with Universal unless I bought it from them for an extortionist’s price, even though I wrote it. Don’t ask.” The state of movie-making is so bad that even Madonna can’t get a biopic off the ground. MADONNA. They gave a biopic for each Beatle, but they couldn’t spare one for the Queen of Pop? Granted, she is asking for a big budget, but then again, she is Madonna.
The ongoing stalemate with studio heads led Madonna back to music, as she returned to the studio with collaborator Stuart Price to make her newest album Confessions on a Dance Floor II, a sequel to her 2005 pièce de résistance, Confessions on a Dance Floor. She also revealed that her diet is popcorn, and that she has no cartilage left in her knee due to “dancing for so long in high heels and running on pavement and doing Ashtanga yoga.” Can’t wait for this biopic!
Confessions II is out on July 3rd, but as for Madonna: The Movie, we may be waiting forever, unless someone wants to cough up a Madonna-worthy bag of cash as soon as possible.
