Only Sade Could Make a Smooth Song for Time Traveling

Entertainment

Like all Sade songs, “Flower of the Universe,” the first new music from Sade in seven years, is a beautiful lullaby for the sad and wistful teenager who dreams of tesseracts and Oprah with sparkly eyebrows.

Producer No I.D. released the song Tuesday at midnight and tweeted: “A legend. Sade, it was an honor.” A very Sade song title, “Flower of the Universe” is made for heartbreak or making out or a little of both, depending on the context, the people involved, and whether or not it is raining, or snowing, or otherwise moody, weather-wise. It’s universally smooth and good for any occasion: spooky, other-worldly, the soundtrack to a montage of one sad ghost roaming the moors in search of another.

In short, it’s perfect.

Sade created the song specifically for the soundtrack to Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time, which will also include music from Kehlani, Sia (hmm), and DJ Khaled, out March 9. Listen to it one billion times until then; it would be rude not to.
