These are a pair of Crocs with what looks like a bunch of rocks glued onto them. It appears that Crocs are messing with our minds.
In a piece titled “Are Crocs Headed for a Chic Turn?” WWD explains that Kane brought the idea of using Crocs in his collection to Crocs (of his own free will), and the brand proceeded to make custom marble finishes for his collection. The shoes come tacked with the aforementioned “Jibbitz” “gemstone” “charms.”
Crocs merchandising rep Michelle Poole told WWD—lying, I presume—“I think in the marketplace we are seeing more exaggerated silhouettes and right now is a time in the fashion cycle where [our] clog is starting to feel very fresh again. Its silhouette works with what’s trending in the rest of the market.”
Poole goes on to say, “There is beauty in all of the individual gems and how they really enhance the overall shape of clog, plus the marble finishing. And up close all of these handmade charms are something really special.”
Son. These are ROCKS on CROCS!!! And Crocs have been trying to be chic for years now. We already did this! How many times do we have to reject you, BUGABOO, before you get the point? This feels a bit like Groundhog Day.
These rock Crocs won’t be available to purchase in stores, but consumers will be able to buy a pair for over $150 (much more than the normal pricing) via “a very select list of stores that Christopher Kane currently distributes to,” according to Poole.
Are you coming around yet? Well. Confession. The Crocs below aren’t as atrocious as the rest (they look like bedazzled Hunter rain booties) and I know many people that would wear them. Am I alright?
