Black Panther Party leader Huey Newton and his wife, Gwen, arrive at the Alameda County courthouse in Oakland, California on Friday, May 19, 1978, where a judge ordered him to post an additional $75,000 bail. Judge Martin Pulich said charges filed against Newton in connection with a bar room scuffle last week in Santa Cruz County “substantially increases” the potential of Newton fleeing prosecution on murder and assault charges in Oakland.
