“Smooth Aberration” is a Vimeo account managed by an Australian guy who compulsively and meticulously documents the removal of his many ingrown hairs in hundreds of videos that were deemed too horrific by YouTube to remain on the video-hosting site.
, for violating the terms of their “community guidelines.” Yes, they’re gross—and incredibly graphic, thanks to the USB microscope he uses for a camera—but his stuff isn’t any more visually offensive than the

Sick of getting violations and terminations from YouTube, Smooth Aberration finally took his hobby over to
Vimeo last year where he’s had the freedom to upload more than 800 videos of microscopic ingrown hair extractions.
According to an
AMA he conducted on Reddit, Smooth Aberration has something of a chronic ingrown hair problem, whether he waxes, sugars, shaves, or uses depilatory cream. But now he deliberately shaves his body hair so that more ingrown can form.
“The scarring is not really that bad— barely noticeable,” he says, “Although I can’t see myself doing it for decades and decades.”
As for whether or not he has some kind of “problem,” he says, “I don’t believe I have trichtillomania or dermatillomania. I don’t feel compelled to sit down regularly and pull out hairs, and I don’t do it when I’m not recording them. Usually I will record videos in large sessions each week or each fortnight, sometimes up to 50 of them.”
