Woman Adopts Dog, Promptly Attempts to Flip Dog on Craigslist for Cash

Latest

A Hawaiian woman recently adopted a 10-year-old Jack Russell terrier named Sallie Mae from her local humane society shelter. Yay! But about an hour after leaving the shelter, she posted the pup for sale on Craigslist—asking more than double the original adoption fee. Boo!

That’s according to ABC News. See, the Hawaiian Humane Society celebrated this latest adoption with a brief video on their Facebook page. But something was afoot:

“We got notices from our fans on Facebook only an hour or two after the adoption, saying that a woman has posted a Craigslist ad, wearing the same cloth as the woman in our Facebook post,” Jacque Vaughn, community relations director at the Hawaiian Humane Society told ABC News.

The Craigslist ad, titled “Jack Russell,” claimed that the dog was five years old, while in fact, Sally Mae is 10. The dog had to be sold because “my boyfriend& I is [sic] too caught up with work since we have 2 jobs each and she needs a family that’ll give her that attention. Please.”

Take a moment to ponder the terrifying dedication of dog people, who apparently sit all day on their local humane society’s Facebook feed as well as constantly trawling the Craigslist pets category.

The woman wasn’t doing anything illegal, but it was definitely a dick move. But there’s good news, in a follow-up posted by the Hawaiian Humane Society:

Great News! Sally Mae was returned to us when the adopters recognized they could not care for her. She was adopted to a loving family this afternoon. We applaud them for returning her to us! They did the right thing and that’s all that matters.

I can’t be the only person imagining a crew of polite-but-firm Humane Society enforcers. Those people are not to be fucked with.
