16 and Pregnant Returns, Plus MTV Might Revive Original Teen Mom

MTV’s flagship of unplanned-pregnancy-based reality shows, 16 and Pregnant, is returning for a fifth season of depressing stories about how girls irrevocably altered their lives by letting immature losers cum inside them. Additionally, there are rumors that the network is bringing back the original Teen Mom now that Amber Portwood is out of prison.

In its press release for the new season of 16 and pregnant—which premieres April 29—MTV is taking credit for the recent dip in America’s teen pregnancy stats.

According to new research released in January 2014 by economists at the University of Maryland and Wellesley College, MTV’s shows about teen pregnancy and parenthood, including “16 and Pregnant” and the “Teen Mom” franchise, led to a 5.7% reduction in teen births – or about one-third of the decline in teen births since the premiere of “16 and Pregnant” in June 2009.

More exciting, though, is the prospect that MTV is getting the gang back together: Maci, Caitlyn, Amber, and Farrah. After four one-hour follow-up specials aired last month with great success, the network is aiming to breathe new life in the series that went dead when Amber Portwood was sentenced to prison. Now that she’s served her time, the young moms are all on board with being on TV again—with one caveat. They don’t want Farrah Abraham included on the deal. According to a source:

Portwood, Lowell, and 22-year-old Maci Bookout (whose special ran last summer) are demanding that two-time porn star Abraham be axed from the reality series. “They don’t want their kids on a show where someone’s talking about sex toys,” the source explains.
MTV is taking the request seriously. “They would definitely consider dumping Farrah to get the other girls,” the insider tells Us.

Farrah doesn’t seemed bothered by it. According to her Twitter account, she has other plans:

Besides, she has her music career to fall back on, as she’s just released a new single. It’s called “Blowin’.”
