A Brief Summary of Who’s Attending the Met Gala (Despite the Looming Bezos Presence)
Spoiler: No Zendaya or Meryl Streep—and probably no Bella Hadid.

As I write this first thing Monday morning, the rich and famous across New York City are beginning their Met Gala prep. A number probably haven’t eaten a real meal in days in order to fit into their “Fashion is art”-themed outfits. The city’s lymphatic masseuses are likely speeding between appointments. Honorary chair Lauren Sanchez Bezos is probably already getting the first of many pounds of makeup shellacked to her face.
Sanchez Bezos and her husband Jeff Bezos (heard of him?) paid $10 million to sponsor this year’s event, launder their reputations, and get Anna Wintour’s OK, according to Page Six. They’ll be sitting with fellow tacky social climber Kris Jenner.
Page Six and The Cut have good rundowns of who we can expect to see on the famous “first Monday in May” red carpet, including Zoë Kravitz (but likely no Harry Styles), Lena Dunham, Teyana Taylor, Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, the beautiful and tall Elizabeth Debicki, the beautiful and tall Gwendoline Christie, A’ja Wilson, Julia Garner, and event co-chairs Venus Williams, Beyoncé, and Nicole Kidman.
Beyond publicly named committee members (aka those above), the guest list is a bit of a mystery. The Daily Mail’s paparazzi have been following Romeo Beckham and his girlfriend around New York this weekend, including to a Met Gala pre-party, prompting speculation that the couple will attend—juicy, considering it’s reportedly his estranged brother Brooklyn Beckham’s “favourite” of the year.
But one of the most consistent red carpet winners is not making the trip: Zendaya is taking a break from public events following her busy movie promo schedule. And the Daily Mail said that Meryl Streep had been asked to co-chair but declined due to the Bezoses’ involvement—but her rep told Page Six that she’s never attended the Met Gala because “it has never quite been her scene.”
Bella Hadid has also prompted questions about whether she’ll be attending after liking an Instagram post that said “You cannot wear the ICE out pin to the Jeff Bezos backed MET Gala. Jeff Bezos is part of the reason we’re in this mess.” No lies spotted! But it would be kind of awkward if she rocked up on the red carpet after that…
