A Snowpiercer TV Series Starring Jennifer Connelly Is in the Works at TNT

Snowpiercer isn’t a train that’s easy to get off of, as TNT’s latest TV project attests.

Variety reported on Wednesday that TNT has ordered a Snowpiercer series based on the 2013 Bong Joon Ho film of the same name that has inspired a cult viewership and countless “theories” about how truly radical its premise is. (The premise being a severely class-divided train goes round and round the frozen tundra that is our future world. Revenge ensues.)

Per Variety, the show will star Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Mickey Sumner, Susan Park, Benjamin Haigh, Sasha Frolova, Katie McGuinness, Alison Wright, Annalise Basso, Sam Otto, Roberto Urbina, Sheila Vand, and Lena Hall. Joon Ho, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun, and Dooho Choi will executive produce.

Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT said of the show:

“I’m a personal fan of Bong Joon Ho’s epic film, and jumped at the chance to honor his original vision, yet expand upon the world and characters with a diverse, award-winning cast. Science fiction is the perfect genre to examine issues of race, class, gender and natural resources with thought-provoking and exciting storytelling. Snowpiercer will explore those relevant issues while embarking on a wild, action-filled ride.”

Period pieces are also good for exploring these issues—and documentaries, and comedies—but I won’t harp on it. What I’m picturing is an ad campaign with the tagline “Get Ready for the Ride of Your Life.” Which is why I don’t write ad copy! Ready to have my thoughts provoked.
