Amber Rose Defends Kim Kardashian, Gets Into the Class Politics of Nudity, Remains Our Muva

Latest

When Kim Kardashian posted a (censored) nude selfie two days ago, a host of concern-trolling celebrities felt the need to comment, resulting in some A-plus shade and a thoughtful essay from Kim in response. On Wednesday, Amber Rose also jumped in to her defense—specifically regarding a pointed rant from singer P!nk—that deftly touches on the class politics of public nudity, and reminds us why Amber Rose is truly important out here in this feminist fight.

P!nk’s Instagram, posted Tuesday night, makes a binary distinction between women “using their brains, their strength, using their work ethic, their talent” and women who use “your body, your sex, your tits and asses, but women like you don’t need that kind of attention.” This is dumb because it presumes that one precludes the other, something you’d assume P!nk thought about before posing, for instance, in PETA’s “I’d rather go naked than wear fur” campaign, an advertisement that ended up on a billboard in Times Square. P!nk very clearly has brains, strength, talent and work ethic AND used her body for attention to a cause she feels strongly about, which is fine! It just seems hypocritical to call out other women—presumably Kardashian—who do the same.

This was not lost on Amber Rose, who responded in kind, and schooled her on some nuances that the pop star seemed to have missed on her first try:

Damn Pink we were all born naked society sexualizes our breast and bodies. If a grown mother of 2 is comfortable with her body and wants to show it off that’s none of ur business or anyone else’s. Now, if u wanna talk to kids and be a mentor to young teens, tell them to go to school and not use their bodies to get ahead?! I’m all for it! But please as a grown woman let another grown woman live as she wishes. That’s our problem! We’re so quick to down each other instead of uplifting! Pink, We’ve seen u damn near naked swinging from a rope (Beautifully) but what’s the difference between a rope, a pole and a pic on Instagram? Classism. Because u sing while ur half naked does that make it “Classy” or is it because u have a “talent”? I’m not dissing at all Pink just curious after u said “You’ll never have to make a silly excuse for yourself”.

Damn Pink! Muva read you. In a consecutive Instagram post, above, Amber Rose further defended Kardashian and publicly invited her (and her sisters!) to her Slutwalk 2016.
