One of the many genius things about Amy Sedaris is that she has never allowed us to get sick of her. She dips in and out of pop culture, selectively working on projects that she seems genuinely committed to making as demented as possible. Her upcoming truTV show, At Home with Amy Sedaris, is true to form if the first taste of the show (the clip above) is any indication. In it, Sedaris and Jane Krakowski sing a satirical song that seems crafted to help you remember which type of glue to use on a variety of materials, but bombards you with enough information to be confounding—and then Sedaris hits it home with a punchline that subverts her entire number. It’s great fun.
Sedaris also plays characters on the show, including “a hobo,” an “international wine lady,” and Patty, who is “every southern woman crammed into one lady.”
Each episode will have a theme. Themes include grieving, poverty, love making, cooking for one, fish, gift giving, wood, and a holiday special.
Sedaris has dipped into this territory before via her very funny books I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence and Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People.
At Home with Amy Sedaris is co-created by Sedaris and Paul Dinello and is produced by PFFR with Sedaris, Dinello, Alyson Levy, John Lee, and Vernon Chatman executive producing.
