That ‘70s- set TV show based on the biography of Ford Models founder Eileen Ford is still in the works at ABC, and Andie MacDowell has just been cast as the star.
Variety reports on the casting and offers a bit of an update about the project, now called Model Woman. It’s based on Robert Lacey’s bio Model Woman: Eileen Ford and the Business of Beauty and also inspired by “the notorious modeling wars of the 1970s.” But rather than a straight biopic approach, it’s been fictionalized:
Based on Robert Lacey’s 2015 biography of Ford co-founder Eileen Ford, the pilot is a fictionalized family soap set in the late ’70s, centered on the tempestuous matriarch and uncompromising businesswoman at the helm of an internationally renowned modeling agency named Bertie, who will be played by MacDowell.
Variety notes that it’s a “departure in genre for ABC, but would add to the network’s long list of female-led dramas such as ‘Scandal,’ ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘Quantico’ and ‘How to Get Away With Murder.’”
