Angelina Jolie Lends Her Name To Crazy-Expensive Jewelry
Latest- Angelina Jolie is shilling fine jewelry again, with former Asprey executive Robert Procop. This black necklace she wore to a Salt premiere is one of their pieces. The jewels will be “priced individually,” with proceeds going to Jolie’s charity. [WWD]
- London police apparently decided not to pursue charges made against Shawn Mount, the hairdresser who was accused of rape by a 24-year-old model. Mount is married to the Chanel face Heidi Mount, and the alleged assault occurred during London Fashion Week in September. Heidi Mount told Page Six, “We are still together. Nothing about these false accusations has changed our relationship.” [P6]
- Topshop‘s Oxford Circus flagship store was briefly closed because of a successful protest by an anti-tax-avoidance group. Topshop’s founder, Sir Philip Green, pays corporate tax in Monaco. (His wife is a Monaco resident.) [CQ]
- Jennifer Lopez — Gucci model, new namesake of Kohl’s bedding and crockery, mother, etc — is now a face of L’Oréal. She’ll be advertising hair care products. She describes her style as “Old Hollywood.” (Snooze.) “I’m not going to have the Lady Gaga hat on,” Lopez says. “That’s not my style.” [People]
- Sofia Vergara is in talks to become a face of Kmart. The deal is rumored to be worth $8 million. [P6]
- Jessica Simpson‘s brand empire — which counts 22 licenses worth of overpriced tat, including swimwear, shoes, accessories, fragrances, and watches, as well as clothing of all descriptions — is raking in some $750 million in sales annually. This makes her the queen of all celebrity clothing deals, until Madonna and Lourdes overtake her. [WWD]
- Kate Middleton and Prince William have already posed for their engagement portrait — Mario Testino, who famously photographed William’s mother, took it. [Vogue UK]
- This is why everyone who lines up in the freezing cold to pay full price for a mass-market designer collaboration like Lanvin for H&M — with the exception of a few eBay sellers who are preying on those even more gullible than themselves — is a total prat: they re-stock that shit. If you wait long enough, it will even go on sale. [Racked]
- Alexander McQueen will be posthumously honored with the Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design award at the British Fashion Awards on Tuesday. [WWD]
- An eyebrow-bleached Alessandra Ambrosio posed for Numéro Japan. [Quem]
- Blackbook‘s model columnist, Dana Drori, on Orientalism in fashion: “With globalization and capitalism making the world smaller and companies bigger, this Eastern appropriation of Western beauty trends is not a surprise. My Aryan-Stepford-Wife look is not only different from Eastern physical features, but it also connotes a Western capitalist culture associated with the products being sold. Harajuku X-Girl shot in New York in order to have the city in the background, because, similar to my shoot with Joy Magazine, it sells in foreign markets.” [Blackbook]
- Lily Aldridge is a Victoria’s Secret model (and the sister of the photographer Miles Aldridge, and the daughter of Beatles illustrator Alan Aldridge), but what she really wants to do is design. “I’d love to do a small collection as a sideline. Models have a really good sense of clothes; we spend so much time trying so many different things. And sometimes you wish you could design your own collection because you can’t find the stuff you want. So perhaps a small label just to start out; I love Erin Wasson‘s stuff or what Kate Moss does for Topshop, so who knows!” Both clothing lines Aldridge name-checked are dead. [Vegas Magzine, via Fashionologie]
- Michael Kors hates the word “Pre-Fall” and thinks the season should be renamed. “Everyone knows now that Resort is important, but because the name ‘Pre-Fall’ is so ugly no one wants to acknowledge that these are the clothes you actually put in your closet.” Funny, Stella McCartney hates “Resort.” Maybe these two should get together and found a naming committee. [Elle]
- To rebuff its unwelcome suitor, Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, the family that owns a majority stake in Hermès wants to create an unlisted holding company that controls “more than 50%” of the business. Minority shareholders apart from LVMH — which surprised everyone by buying up over 17% of Hermès without disclosing its holdings — are upset, and the plan awaits the approval of French regulators. Hermès is one of the last independently owned luxury houses, but it is publicly traded. [WWD]
- Saks Fifth Avenue has a blog now. Let us all now praise Saks’ acknowledgment of the 21st Century. [WWD]
- Beauty company Coty is now the proud owner of the Chinese skincare brand Tjoy. Coty has recently acquired OPI, Dr Scheller Cosmetics, and Philosophy. Quite the buying spree. [WWD]
- There is a Bulgari retrospective going on at the Grand Palais in Paris. [Newsweek]
