Asked About Sexism, Paladino Stomps Off

Latest

Carl Paladino is not sexist for calling Senator Kirsten Gillibrand “[Senator] Schumer’s little girl.” And he’s going to prove it by refusing to be interviewed on that rather inconvenient topic. “I think we’re done talking to this lady,” he mumbled.

Paladino, the Republican candidate for governor in New York, already has a sterling record of thoughtful and sensitive remarks on women, gay rights, and the “awesome”-ness of girl-on-girl action. In an interview with an upstate station yesterday, Paladino was asked if he thought the comments were sexist and given the chance to apologize.

Paladino said, “No, I don’t. I was referring to the fact that Miss Gillbrand seems to vote exactly as Mr. Schumer directs her to. She doesn’t show any mind of her own in voting. And that’s why I referred to her that way.”

After one more attempted question, Paladino refused to continue on live television and told his staff, “She wants to talk trash, she can talk to somebody else.”

Incidentally, here are some other synonyms for what Paladino is accusing Gillibrand of being: Pawn. Puppet. Pushover. And those are just the P’s. But hopefully after tomorrow, he’s off the stage for good.
