Belgian Fan Goes to World Cup Match, Lands L'Oréal Modeling Contract

Latest

Despite her home team being eliminated from the World Cup in the quarter-finals, 17-year-old Axelle Despiegelaere from Belgium has a lot to be happy about—she just landed a contract with L’Oréal after simply being photographed cheering for the Red Devils at the World Cup.

Despiegelaere went viral when photos of her donning face paint and a horned cap at the Belgium/Russia match last month started to appear in newspapers around the world. She was included in this Portuguese paper featuring a roundup of international “muses” in the crowd (which also deems the one woman of color included “Beleza Negra” or “Black Beauty”):

One of her handful of Facebook fan pages has garnered 229,143 likes. It clearly didn’t take too long for someone to capitalize on that because on Tuesday she announced she signed with L’Oréal Belgilux. Thus far her campaign consists of a video of her getting her hair done at a L’Oréal Salon, but I’m sure we can expect great things from the lady who travelled to the World Cup for some friendly nationalism and returned a model and a hero.
