Critics Choice Awards 2024 Red Carpet: Yes, There Was Another Awards Show This Weekend
Awards season is going full steam ahead, even though we’re still a week away from Oscar nominations.

The Emmys were on Monday night (after being rescheduled from September due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike), and the red carpet was, I’d say, a solid B minus. Perhaps those in attendance were a little pooped from the awards show they’d been at the night before: the Critics Choice Awards, which was held Sunday night.
It seemed to be an enjoyable night for all—except for Ariana DeBose, who did not take kindly to a joke about her singing. (In her defense, it was a weird joke!) Chelsea Handler was a good host. Ryan Gosling looked confused at Mark Ronson’s win for “I’m Just Ken.” And Oprah did not seem thrilled that there was pizza being served. Emma Stone won another Best Actress award and Oppenheimer seemed to win everything else.
We’re still a week away from the Oscar nominations, and the ceremony itself isn’t until March 11... But if you feel like you need some more practice looking at red-carpet clothes, we’ve got you covered.
Ayo Edebiri in The Row

Ayo looks like a very cool marshmallow. She’d probably look even more cool with some matching shoes and without the sunglasses.
Lily Gladstone in Christian Siriano

Regal! Royal! Other celebs should take notes.
Margot Robbie in Balmain

It feels phenomenal to see Margot in something that isn’t overtly Barbie-related. However, this red gown does make me believe in color theory...in that hot pink is absolutely Margot’s color.
Greta Lee in Loewe

I am obsessed with Greta Lee this awards season. I will fail spectacularly at trying to recreate this look myself, but I will try nonetheless.
Dua Lipa in Prada

This looks like a bunch of ribbon candy superglued together. Specifically, cinnamon ribbon candy, which is my least favorite flavor of any candy.
Pedro Pascal in Zegna

No commentary necessary, his magnificence continues.
Taraji P. Henson in Boss

She looks great. She also looks like an Instagram bride showing off the second look on her wedding night. Two things can be true at once!
Emma Stone in Louis Vuitton

I mean, she looks very elegant but this does confirm my suspicion that Emma Stone is saving her best look for Oscars night...
Charles Melton in Valentino

Are tailors out for 2024? Can we bring them back in? (Editor’s note: Do you need a tailor with that face though?)
Rosamund Pike in Rodarte

This is exactly the dress I would wear if I were invited to a rich friend’s birthday party on a giant estate in the English countryside where people might be murdered...
Danielle Brooks in Monsoori

I dislike the dress! And the bow! And the color! But I love the vibes!
Billie Eilish in Thom Browne

This is a classic example of one of Billie’s two looks: A funky, witchy high school art teacher beaming with pride upon learning her favorite senior decided to go to art school. (Her other look is: 8-year-old dressing up in her dad’s clothing.)
Reese Witherspoon in CELINE

I don’t care how contemporary or structured you try and make it, a bow is a bow is a BOW. And there are too many of them right now.
Matt Bomer in Berluti

A monochromatic Matt? I am drooling, just a little.
Brie Larson in Prada

This is nice. And nothing more.
Chelsea Handler in Alex Perry

I love Chelsea but this looks something someone wore to a 2012 Real Housewives reunion.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph in Jovana Louis

I love the drama of the sleeves, but imagine how much more fun this would’ve been in a jewel tone.
Carey Mulligan in Armani Privé

Wow. More black. I can’t believe it!
Jeremy Allen White in Saint Laurent

Ignoring that this is yet again more black, I can’t believe how good Jeremy Allen White looks in pinstripes—a difficult feat for any man under the age of 60.
America Ferrera in Alberta Ferretti

OK, well, it’s definitely not black.
Meg Ryan in Saint Laurent

Was there a dress code for this awards show? Was the dress code black?
Angela Bassett in Pamella Roland

An exception to my annoyance: Angela Bassett (duh).
Mandy Moore in Elie Saab

This is fun and funky and colorful. I really, really love this. (Her hair is perfect here too.)
Colman Domingo in Valentino

I would not be mad if every red carpet for the rest of the 2024 awards season just featured Colman Domingo and nobody else.
Emily Blunt (in Armani Privé) and John Krasinski (in Dolce & Gabbana)

Mom and Dad are having a lovely night at the annual spring charity auction for their children’s private school.
Christina Ricci in Atsuko Kudo

Yes! If you’re going to wear black, at least channel a dominatrix vibe.
Awkwafina in Dior Haute Couture

I would hope no stylist would ever dress their client in a garment they found in the closet of an abandoned, haunted Victorian mansion but I can’t be too sure here...
Julianne Moore in Chanel Haute Couture

This does absolutely nothing for me. Or for Julianne. Or for society!
Kieran Culkin in Zegna

This is an interesting choice of color for...anyone. Also, the shirt is giving priest, which is a bold choice.
Rachel Sennott in Balenciaga

*yawn* (love you though, Rachel.)
Ali Wong in Givenchy

This is an incredible color on Ali, and I imagine she’s wearing mega-platforms not to appear taller but to be able to kiss Bill Hader.
Greta Gerwig in Molly Goddard

Is this a look she cobbled together with the petticoats leftover from Little Women?
Barry Keoghan in Zegna

Sure, fine. A+ subtle watch product placement, though.
Natasha Lyonne in Dolce & Gabbana

On a red carpet where everyone else wasn’t wearing black, this might have stood out. Might.
Bella Ramsey in Thom Browne

This is fresh, delightful, and perfect for Bella.
Quinta Brunson in Georges Hobeika

The embroidery here is incredible and, if I had seen this before the Emmys and not after the Emmys, I’d be prepared to re-crown Quinta as one of our best red-carpet dressers.
James Marsden in Dolce & Gabbana

This is 100% what the James Marsden from Jury Duty would wear to an awards show.
Keri Russell in Stéphane Rolland Couture

Since I’ve got Pedro Pascal on the brain, the squiggly little things down the front of her dress are reminding me of cordyceps, which is terrifying!
Abby Elliott

This is not my favorite color but color beggars can’t be color choosers! Abby looks incredible though.
Tom Holland in Prada

Hm.
Sanda Oh in Carolina Herrera

Quick, Sandra Oh, you’re stranded in the middle of a red carpet and you can only have one: The color white, a giant flower crotch applique, or a scrunchy neck design. Which do you choose?? The two you don’t select will be banned from society forever.
Rachel Brosnahan in Givenchy

At least the chest buckles are...something.
Jon Hamm in Brunello Cucinelli

I don’t love this!? But: Jon Hamm.
Kaley Cuoco in Dior Haute Couture

A gorgeous Dior gown that would have been gorgeous in any or every other color.
Celine Song in Thom Browne

Ugh, black—but it’s Celine Song, so at least it’s fucking cool.
Camila Morrone in Chanel Haute Couture

Ban All Bows 2024.
Emerald Fennell in Stella McCartney

I take back everything I just said about there being too many black dresses on this red carpet. Sometimes a plain, black dress is good! Better than this mess anyway.
Sterling K. Brown

OK, he can wear sunglasses on the red carpet. But only him. Damn.
Allison Williams in Zuhair Murad

A perfect bridal shower look for the chic bride.
Jenny Slate in Alberta Ferretti

Hard pass. Wrinkled, the color of bath water after you strip your sheets... Hell even Jenny herself looks underwhelmed in it.
Jennifer Aniston in Dolce & Gabbana

Oh, Jen.
Ariana DeBose in Givenchy

A little boring? Yes. But chic? Also yes! The boring and chic balance each other out to make this look just OK.
