Designer Popular With Kate Middleton Starts Royal Wedding Dress Beef

Latest

The royal wedding is over, but the royal wedding dress drama is just beginning.

Apparently designer Emilia Wickstead thinks that Meghan Markle’s custom wedding gown by Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller looked awfully like her own designs! This is particularly juicy because Wickstead is a favorite designer of Kate Middleton. From—who else?—the Daily Mail:

‘Her dress is identical to one of our dresses,’ says Wickstead.
‘Apparently a lot of commentators were saying, “It’s an Emilia Wickstead dress.”’
The designer went on to have a bit of a dig at Meghan’s look.
She says: ‘If you choose a simple design the fit should be perfect. Her wedding dress was quite loose.’

Elle points to this Instagram post for the sake of comparison. Honestly, they all look like wedding dresses to me.

Apparently Wickstead didn’t like Meghan’s hairdo, either: “I was like, ‘Hold the wisps [of her hair] back — it’s a Royal Wedding for God’s sake.’”

The Daily Mail doesn’t give a lot of additional detail, so it’s hard to say in what context these remarks were made or why on Earth somebody who has a perfectly good thing with the royal family would even consider starting beef instead of just continuing to cash those royal checks. (Also, Emilia, babe, you did not invent the boat neck.)

But Mehan Markle has just been granted her own California-themed coat of arms so Emilia Wickstead just take a bite of of that avocado toast, okay?
