Boo! Pizza! Scared yet? Well, you will be. A trailer for Slice, a somewhat mysterious project from Austin Vesely, has dropped. Before this, his film debut, Vesely previously directed Chance the Rapper videos like “Angels” and “Sunday Candy.” Slice finds him reteaming with Chance, one of the movie’s stars, as well as Jez favorite Zazie Beetz (best known for her role on Atlanta).
“Slice,” which was covertly shot in Chicago over the summer [of 2016], “takes place in mysterious city, and centers around an enigmatic outlaw framed for a killing spree that targets unsuspecting pizza delivery boys.”
The prestigious distributor A24, responsible for cerebral horror like The Witch and It Comes at Night, will release Slice next year. If it is a hit, expect the industry to do what it does and churn out a bunch of similar-themed knock-offs attempting to replicate the success of the horror trend du jour: scary hamburger stories, scary burrito stories, scary plant protein stories, perhaps a pizza-roll prequel. Should be fun.
