Drew Barrymore Eats Human Flesh to the Tune of Hootie & the Blowfish
EntertainmentBut, like most Netflix series, it was given the gift of another season—the chance to clarify its point of view and fine-tune its sense of humor. (This happened with the similarly wobbly Grace & Frankie, which didn’t finds its footing until Season 3. It’s now one of my favorite shows.) The trailer, released on Thursday, suggests Santa Clarita Diet may finally have more to say than, “Wouldn’t it be funny if we watched Drew Barrymore drink smoothies made out of people?” The problems have gotten bigger; the universe has expanded.
Season 2 will apparently follow Shiela (Barrymore), Joe (Timothy Olyphant), and their teen daughter Abby Hammond (Liv Hewson) as they struggle to satiate Shiela’s problematic dietary preferences while dealing with the wider problem of whatever caused her zombification spreading to other Santa Clarita residents. It looks…a little better. But, like any true Drew Barrymore fan, I’m always willing to give her another chance.
Plus, it’s hard for me to say no to a trailer that has the guts to feature Hootie & the Blowfish in 2018.
