We have covered Ocean’s 8 (previously known as Ocean’s Ocho) pretty aggressively here at Jezebel, and who could blame us! The cast of the all-woman reboot, is led by Oscar winners Sandra Bullock (she’s rumored to play Danny Ocean’s sister) and Cate Blanchett, while Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Helena Bonham Carter, and freaking Rihanna make up the remaining six.
But though I was a little disappointed after reading an early version of the synopsis (it’s apparently about them hatching a plot to steal a necklace during the Met Gala), pictures of the two leads on set in NYC this chilly fall Monday have reignited my interest in the film. But despite my misleading headline (sorry!) and myriad exclamation marks, we have learned absolutely nothing from them.
This one—of Blanchett sporting a stylish blonde haircut and funky leopard coat, standing beside Bullock, who’s repurposing her costume from Miss Congeniality, Miss Congeniality 2, and The Heat—was just a photo of two women standing next to each other, not a photo that reveals Blanchett’s character to be the granddaughter of a Manhattan lesbian named Carol Aird.
And this one is just of Blanchett and Bullock in the same costumes, smiling while drinking some nice hot java (or tea!) inside a Think coffee, not a shot of Blanchett’s character saying, “I remember when Carol used to start telling me the super intense story of how her relationship with Grandma Therese began, and I’d be like, ‘Grandma Carol! TMI!’”
And this final one is simply a photo of Blanchett and Bullock standing behind a skateboarding dog, not the middle of a scene where Blanchett’s character says, “The only thing Grandma Carol loved more than Grandma Therese was a skateboarding dog.”
We learned nothing from these pictures. What a shame.
