Matty Healy and Gabbriette Got Married at Madonna’s Mansion
Is there a Taylor Swift song about this?

On Saturday, the 1975 frontman Matty Healy and model/professional cool girl Gabbriette Bechtel tied the knot at Madonna’s former mansion in Los Angeles, but what does that have to do with another infamous ceremony that took place across the country at Madison Square Garden just two weeks ago? Apparently, everything. Because even after all these years, Healy still can’t escape the shadow of his most famous credit: being Taylor Swift’s ex.
On Sunday, Healy and Bechtel announced their wedding in People, but—as karma would have it—the tabloids reporting on the nuptials made sure to mention Swift’s name at the top, even in the headlines. “MATTY HEALY SAYS ‘I DO’ WEEKS AFTER EX-TAYLOR SWIFT’S WEDDING” (TMZ) and “Matty Healy Marries Gabbriette Bechtel Weeks After Taylor Swift Wedding” (E! News), to name a few. Just what you want in your wedding announcement!
Shortly after Swift and Healy’s short-lived but emotionally wrought rebound situationship circa 2023 (See: The Tortured Poets Department), they both met their respective future partners: For Taylor, it was Travis Kelce, and for Matty, Gabbriette. Both couples began dating in the fall of 2023, and now their weddings just so happen to be happening back-to-back? The timing is…interesting. Maybe kismet.
Instead of MSG, Healy and Bechtel opted for Madonna’s former mansion, Castillo del Lago in Los Angeles, but I doubt there was much crossover in terms of the guest list, since “Actually Romantic” and the “boring Barbie” remark made it clear that Swift wasn’t friendly with Healy’s crowd. Of course Charli XCX and her husband, the 1975 bassist George Daniel, were in attendance, and the rest of the attendees read off like a list of slightly obscure, slightly relevant, IYKYK, cool D-list celebrities: Devon Lee Carlson, Duke Nicholson, Quentin Blackwell, Alex Consani, etc. I can only imagine how many cool-kid tables there were at this wedding.
But does this wedding mean that Matty will finally shake the label of “Taylor Swift’s ex” on every website? Because if not, Healy might be fathering a child in a few years and the headlines will still be “Taylor Swift’s Ex Is a Dad, Only 1769 Days After Swift Wrote Children’s Movie Song.” At a certain point, we must stop, even though the irony of the situation still brings a Gabbriette-esque smize across my face. But hopefully, this will finally close the loop on the TTPD-BRAT-Life of a Showgirl beef. Everyone is married, honeymooning, and not getting ghosted backstage at a concert. After three years of lore, we may finally know peace. We are free.
