Family Finds Dog They Lost During Superstorm Sandy at the Pound
LatestAnd now for some good news! A family that lost their dog during Superstorm Sandy were reunited with their canine companion while on their way to adopt a new dog.
Chuck James says that his family had spent months searching for their dog, Reckless, after he escaped from their backyard during the storm. The family reported the dog missing and called shelters regularly to see if Reckless had turned up, but the answer was always the same: Reckless wasn’t there. Finally, the James family decided to adopt another dog as a surprise for their daughter’s birthday. When they approached the first cage at the Monmouth County SPCA, however, they were surprised to see someone very familiar. A little plumper perhaps, but still every bit Reckless.
“He was a little bigger than I remembered because they had fed him well,” James joked. “But then he was laying on my wife’s feet, and I knew it was him. … I was in disbelief. I know this dog is meant to be with our family.”
SPCA officials say that Reckless was found as a stray and has now been microchipped so that if he runs off in the future he can be found more easily. The Jameses however, are so excited to be reunited with their dog that they may never let him out of their sight again.
