Faster Pussycat's Tura Satana Dead At 72

Born Tura Luna Pascual Yamaguchi in Hokkaido, Japan, her mother was Cheyenne Indian and Scots-Irish; her father of Japanese and Filipino descent. Satana worked as as an exotic dancer and nude model before her breakthrough role in Russ Meyer’s Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!. While there was no nudity in that film (unlike most of Meyer’s work), there was plenty of camp, tons of dangerous curves and ample cleavage. The plot? A gang of go-go dancers kidnap a couple, murder the boyfriend and force the girlfriend to follow them as they go on a murder rampage and then hide out at a secluded ranch owned by an old man in wheelchair and his two sons. You know, Oscar-worthy stuff! Honestly, the best part about Satana in this flick? As the Times puts it, her character was “brazenly violent but unapologetically feminine.” RIP.
