Fifth Harmony's Normani Kordei Is the First Survivor of Zero Harmony
EntertainmentFifth Harmony, later, Fourth Harmony, and after announcing an “indefinite hiatus” at the end of March (that’s music speak for “shit’s over”), Zero Harmony—the girl group that birthed Camila Cabello—is donezo, and in a big way. This means their solo careers are nigh, and it looks like the first survivor of the band breakup is Normani Kordei. You know her from the countless 5H hits—she taught you how to work from home—but most recently as the featured talent on Khalid’s inescapable “Love Lies,” from the great gay teen love flick Love, Simon.
On Monday, Billboard reported that Kordei inked a solo deal with Keep Cool/RCA Records, a new joint venture co-founded by Tunji Balogun (Senior VP of the major label, RCA Records, which is home to such all-stars as Britney Spears, Pentatonix, Kesha and Mr. Worldwide himself, Pitbull.) It’s a bold move for the singer, a real divorce from her previous relationship with Simon Cowell’s Syco label under the Fifth Harmony name. For what it’s worth, Cabello’s solo endeavors are tied to the Syco/Cowell name, so, uh, there could be drama? Who knows!
Kordei offered the following statement for her fans following the news of her deal:
“I’m so incredibly grateful to be able to be in a place where I can explore myself as an artist and what I’m capable of. Never in a million years did I think I would be in this position in 2018. Everyone has been so supportive and patient, thank you so much to my fans for giving me the opportunity.
I’m so thankful to my girls that we created this space among ourselves to explore and branch out creatively. Fifth Harmony has always been and will always be home.”
Congrats to Kordei for landing on her own dang feet! I look forward to her inevitable Beyoncé-ification.
