Somewhere, the Olsen twins just opened the mail app on their iPhones, saw a message from a Fuller House producer about being on the show and immediately marked the email as spam. “God, it’s them again,” one (probably Ashley) texts the other. “Can they not…” Mary Kate responds. Both then returned to slumber with their respective 70-year-old zaddies.
As the Fuller House Netflix spinoff heads into an inexplicable third season, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen still want nothing to do with the show and their rejection is just as admirable as the first time. There’s no use trying to convince them anymore.
“Personally, I’ve given up asking them,” creator Jeff Franklin told TVLine. “The door is open, but I’m not going to be calling them anymore to invite them. They just don’t seem interested in coming. It’s been three years of invitations, so they know the door is open. It’s up to them to decide if they want to come play or not.”
Three years! The Olsen twins have played with their hearts just about enough, at one point inching close to an appearance before coming to their senses. The show has attempted, through humor, to make up for their refusal to participate:
The first two seasons of the Netflix spinoff were peppered with mentions of Michelle’s absence, including several fourth wall-breaking shoutouts to the twins who took turns playing the youngest of Danny Tanner’s daughters. But you won’t find any such shoutouts in Season 3, the first half of which dropped Friday.
And now these two old ladies are free from the stress of persistent Fuller House invites and of having to see the name “Fuller House” over and over in their inbox.
