Get a Taste of Frank Ocean's New Album a Day Early With His Boys Don't Cry Instrumentals

Entertainment

Frank Ocean, the internet’s elusive Jesus, will tomorrow finally divine upon our unwashed masses an album, after four years and umpteen delays. It is called Boys Don’t Cry, and frankly (heh) I’ll see it when I believe it, but there’s now at least one crumb out there to this thing actually manifesting.

As FACT points out, ya boy has accompanied his Apple Music livestream with instrumentals and sound snippets a la Channel Orange, and rather than wasting your life staring at a live feed of an empty room (though I’m sure maybe like, Marina Abramovic is doing just that), you can just listen to all the instros here, compiled helpfully by a Soundcloud person named Razputin.

Among the tracks: many meandering, repetitive, minimal and plaintive melodies plunked out on a piano or synth or strummed on a guitar; the sound of a can of spraypaint being shaken and then sprayed; some random popping; some footsteps. It’s not clear whether they’ll be on Boys Don’t Cry, which muhfucking better be like a 32-track album, but they sound good, and they sound thoughtful, which is to say they are very characteristically Frank Ocean. I guess we’ll find out soon enough!
