  • According to the Commerce Department’s Consumer Price Index, during the month of December, apparel prices fell 1.1% compared with the same month last year.   • J. Crew‘s go-shop period has ended. Late last year, the retailer announced plans to go private with TPG Capital and Leonard Green & Partners, which offered of $2.86 billion, or $43.50 a share for the company. Under the terms of the deal, competing offers could be tendered up until Saturday. Urban Outfitters and Sears were among those said to be considering bids, but none has materialized. Women’s Wear Daily reports that those companies may have had something else in mind: “[T]hose kicking the tires might have had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get a look at J.
