Katie Holmes, Face Of Ann Taylor, Coming To A Billboard Near You

  • Ann Taylor replaced Heidi Klum with Katie Holmes for the spring season. The brand says it sought Holmes, who’s also modeled for J. Crew and been the face of Miu Miu, for “her intellect, kindness and enduring personal style.” [WWD]
  • Well, that was quick. Hours after Rachel Zoe‘s first collection had been unveiled in the pages of Women’s Wear Daily, Teen Vogue‘s Jane Keltner de Valle pointed out that one of Zoe’s dresses — a white shift covered with a distinctive black line pattern — was virtually identical to a white dress with a distinctive black line pattern that Zoe herself had selected and shot for Teen Vogue in October, 2007. The dress was vintage. If Zoe thought nobody would notice her line is comprised of knock-offs of actual clothes from her own wardrobe, she thought wrong. [@JaneKeltnerdeV, Fashionologie]

  • The Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation named seven emerging designers who will receive $25,000 grants this year. They are: Bibhu Mohapatra, The Lake & Stars, M.   • L’Oréal says it has not dropped Aishwariya Rai from its roster of pretty ladies. Her absence from that multi-celeb-tastic New Year’s ad, coupled with the recent addition of younger Indian actress Freida Pinto to L’Oréal‘s stable had led to speculation that Rai was no longer with the cosmetics giant. But L’Oréal says Rai just didn’t do the TV commercial because of “prior commitments.” [WWD]
  • The Kardashians are being sued for backing out of their deal to promote that horrible prepaid credit card with all those fees. According to the suit, the sisters’ rider for a promotional event in New York included a $12,000 line item for hair. (The sisters Kardashian later agreed to a $7,000 budget for hair and makeup.) “I imagine at least some of that 12K was for travel and accommodations but that still leaves about $10,000 for hair. You could spend that if you’re doing a beluga caviar treatment and then hiring elves by the hour to dry the hair strand by strand,” says a “luxury hair retailer,” who we presume should know.   • Undeterred by such minor litigious inconveniences, the Kardashian war machine rumbles on. Next front, Sears! There the sisters will there launch a licensed fashion line by the name of “Kardashian Kollection” in August. “We love Sears. There is a Sears right near our house,” says Kourtney. [WWD]
  • Taylor Momsen‘s contract as the face of Madonna‘s Material Girl Macy’s juniors’ line appears not to have been renewed — just like her contract with the modeling agency IMG. Material Girl is running a competition to find its new face. [MG]
  • In other news of competitions, Kelly Cutrone is apparently seeking a photographer to follow her around for a few days at fashion week, and shoot the runway, backstage, and parties.   • The Metropolitan Museum of Art is going to renovate its Costume Institute, which will allow the museum to display part of its permanent fashion collection for ten months out of the year.   • Hipster boutique Opening Ceremony hired Terry Richardson, photographer extraordinaire, to shoot 16-year-old model Lindsay Wixson for its spring lookbook. What could possibly go wrong! [WWD]
  • Wixson also appears surrounding by butterflies in the spring Alexander McQueen campaign, which is the house’s first major advertising effort since McQueen‘s death in February of 2010. [TFS]
  • Crystal Renn booked another fashion campaign for the season. In addition to Jean-Paul Gaultier and Jimmy Choo, she’s also the face of DSquared2. Anna Jagodzinska, Fei Fei Sun, Hailey Clauson, Monika Sawicka, and male models Reid Prebenda and Diego Miguel round out the cast.
