Naomi Disinvites Model Rival; Marc Still Lovably Neurotic
Latest- Naomi Campbell allegedly insisted that model/Sean Penn date-r Jessica White not be admitted to her 40th birthday party. [P6]
- Cash-strapped Annie Leibovitz is shooting for Jones New York with Jessica Stam, Hillary Rhoda, and 20-odd other models today. Allegedly. [WWD]
- Models discuss Sex And The City 2: Caroline Trentini, though “a bit of a Charlotte” herself, says the characters are “the four perfect personalities.” Damaris Lewis‘ favorite scene in the first movie was when Charlotte bashes Big over the head with the bouquet. That “proved to us that she was a force to be reckoned with.” Sessilee Lopez likes Samantha, for “her sexual appetite.” Alana Zimmer says the movies are nowhere near as good as the series. “That being said, I will obviously go and see the movie, and love it.” Nobody self-identifies as a Miranda. [Modelinia]
- August magazine cover news is rolling in: Vanity Fair nabbed Angelina Jolie, Elle is featuring Drew Barrymore, ditto Lucky with Ali Larter, and Marie Claire is initiating Dakota Fanning into the ladymag cover-subject game of musical chairs. Meanwhile, at W, the August issue will be the first entirely overseen by new editor Stefano Tonchi. For its cover, he has chosen Jon Hamm and Rebecca Hall, who co-star in a film. [WWD]
- Marlon Brando‘s estate is suing Joe’s Jeans over its marketing of a leather jacket the estate says exploits the late actor’s image. That the jacket is named “The Brando” could be coincidence, but Joe’s also apparently marketed it with the tagline “The Wild One,” which pretty much removes all doubt about the matter. [Contactmusic]
- A rumor is going around that model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley will replace Megan Fox in the next Transformers movie. [Vogue UK]
- It’s confirmed: Giles Deacon is the latest creative director of Ungaro. He will continue showing his eponymous line. Deacon says he plans to show his first collection for Ungaro at the next Paris fashion week, but not at a runway show. (He wants a presentation instead.) The troubled house has seen numerous designers (and C.E.O.’s) come and go during the six years since Emanuel Ungaro‘s retirement. Most recently, Lindsay Lohan and Estrella Archs held the reins; Deacon’s position on glitter heart pasties is unknown. [WWD]
- “Various things have happened at the house recently which for legal reasons the company can’t comment on – but I like to think of the bigger picture,” Deacon tells U.K. Vogue. “The house and its legacy have a lot more to them than that – and there will be announcements over the coming weeks about the business. I can’t talk about them yet but various changes are being put in place.” He also says “Katie Grand will be joining us,” referring to the stylist/editor of LOVE, but declined to say in what role. [Vogue UK]
- “I’m as tortured as ever, I see my shrink once a week, have all the same mood swings, I can sit there the night before a show and think, ‘What if they hate it? What if my life is over and I am homeless?’ I can catastrophise with the best of them. I have sat over on that couch with John Currin and he’ll say, ‘What are you doing?’ and I’ll say, ‘I have no idea’, and then he’ll talk about a smile he’s repainted 16 times. But I also have a certain amount of self-awareness at this point, and I recognise all those neuroses are just human. It’s why I think now I am attracted to yellow. It’s positive; it’s the optimistic choice.” — Marc Jacobs, still neurotic after all these years. [FT]
- Blogger Julia Frakes is neither confirming nor denying that she will be in a Marc Jacobs campaign this fall. [Fashionista]
- “Why was she speaking here? Was she here to be a motivator? Was she here to further her political agenda? The correlation between the industry and her is a tough one.” Sure sounds like Sarah Palin‘s keynote address to the International Council of Shopping Centers conference, in which she discussed the importance of drilling for oil in the Gulf of Mexico, went over a treat. (Was calling her a “tea-party pinup” really necessary, though, Women’s Wear Daily?) [WWD]
- André Leon Talley says that Philip Treacy has found a producer to make a movie about the life of Isabella Blow. John Galliano will play himself. [Vogue UK]
- We love Lara Stone, and we ordinarily are quite fond of Riccardo Tisci. But that wedding dress is kinda fug. [Fashionologie]
- Marco Zanini of Rochas sure has great taste in movies. [Style.com]
- H&M is opening a three-story monster of a store, its largest in the U.S., for the Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. [WWD]
- Prada‘s sales are strong — up 36% this quarter on last year, they say — and the company may soon be acquired, or finally go through with that IPO its been threatening for, oh, only the last decade. [Fashionista]
- Blind item: “Which married fashion megastars may be headed for splitsville? Soho may tremble!” [DFR]
- Juicy Couture is launching a perfume this September. Maybe it’s those tracksuits, but we imagine this one smelling like fake tan and peroxide. [WWD]
- “I’m just really glad to be back to work, and I’m fortunate that sometimes when I have to go away for a few days, I can take my son. I want to incorporate him into my life as much as possible. And he’s getting used to being in different places and around new people. I think he likes it!” — Karolina Kurkova, on her baby son. [W]
- Sprinter Usain Bolt is now shilling for Hublot watches. [WWD]
- Milan‘s fashion week this fall will not be held at its former location, Fashion Milano Center. Instead, organizers say they are working with designers and the city government to allow fashion shows in various historic locations around the city. Many prominent designers, like Armani and Prada, also have their own event spaces that they use for shows. [WWD]
- Paying hundreds of dollars to get gold smooshed onto your face: not a good idea, say dermatologists. [NYTimes]
- A Terry Richardson editorial, without any nudity. Just terrible hair and makeup. [Refinery29]
- To celebrate Uniqlo‘s 26th anniversary, every 26th user to follow the brand on Twitter will get a small clothing voucher. This has made Uniqlo the top Twitter trending topic. Take that, Bieber. [Independent]
- Although same-store sales dropped nearly 20% at Talbot’s last year, the retailer is planning renovations to its stores, and to up its number of outlet locations. [WWD]
- Aside from the costs associated with its recent acquisition of Tommy Hilfiger, Philips-Van Heusen beat analysts’ expectations this quarter. Revenues rose 11%. [Crain’s]
- Venus Williams wore a red-and-black lingerie-inspired outfit to the French Open. [Style.com]
