Nickelodeon Gives Teen YouTube Star Her Own TV Movie
Latest
Lia Marie Johnson is a 17-year-old YouTube star with an account that’s amassed over 900 thousand subscribers. On Twitter, she has over 200 thousand followers. And now, Nickelodeon is giving her a TV movie. Not too bad for a high school senior.
Johnson is primarily known amongst the tween/teen set for her involvement in webseries produced by Dreamwork’s digital media arm AwesomenessTV. In addition to producing web shows, Awesomeness also has its own Nickelodeon sketch series, so a partnership between Johnson and the kids’ network seems like a natural fit.
The movie will be based on Johnson’s popular Terry the Tomboy character.
From Variety:
“Terry the Tomboy embraces one of Nickelodeon’s many hilarious characters that has experienced enormous popularity on our air and online,” said Russell Hicks, Nickelodeon’s prexy of content development and production. “Our audience will soon see a new side to Terry’s offbeat world where she must decide between being true to herself – or changing to obtain acceptance from others.”
Pic features the title character dealing with her first crush. Johnson stars with a mix of established thesps and AwesomenessTV players: Charlie Depew, Noland Ammon and Audrey Whitby. Awesomeness topper Brian Robbins exec produces with Joe Davola and Shauna Phelan. Wade Randloph (“Rick and Morty”) penned the script.
I feel so old and understand so little here (watching Terry the Tomboy did not clear things up) that I’m just going to wish Johnson the best of luck and go crawl into a casket.
The Terry the Tomboy movie will air on Nickelodeon on June 21.
