Before he was the Hulk, before he was Laura Linney’s fucked-up brother in You Can Count on Me, before he cared about fracking, Mark Ruffalo was just another handsome youth hustling for parts in acne commercials.
During the Tonight Show on Thursday, Jimmy Fallon rolled out a 1989 Clearasil ad featuring a 22-year-old Ruffalo avoiding the perils of acne thanks to some medicated face wipes.
“After I was hired,” Ruffalo recalled, “The director was like, ‘I really liked what you did because you just seem like you came right off the street—like, you don’t know how to act at all.’”
