Photoshop Crackdown Discussed In U.K.
Latest- “Children and young women should be informed about airbrushing, so they don’t fall victim to looking at an image and thinking that anyone can have a 12in waist. It is so not possible,” said Equalities Minister Lynne Featherstone. [Guardian]
- Stella McCartney‘s fall campaign features a plain photo of Natalia Vodianova, overlaid with a cartoon company logo by the artist Barry Reigate. He re-drew the letters of the brand as goofy little pumpkins, top hats, and clown shoes. [WWD]
- Anna Dello Russo‘s perfume campaign features a very Avedon-blurry photo of the editor. The scent is named “Beyond” and it comes in a gold bottle that looks like a stiletto. On the weird and awesome/weird and terrible scale, we mostly rate this an awesome. [Grazia]
- We probably should have guessed that Dov Charney lets the ad team really cut loose when they’re being printed in Richardson magazine, the very NSFW sex magazine run by stylist Andrew Richardson. [Copyranter]
- Karl Lagerfeld is not a fan of the movie Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky, says its star, Anna Mouglalis. “When I discussed this with Karl he was very keen for me to show Coco’s humour but that was something the director didn’t want to do. For him nothing can be precise enough. This film is just one interpretation and shows a certain point of view. I didn’t even have to ask for his help though — he relayed anecdotes about Coco, showed me the archives and lent me some beautiful dresses.” Mouglalis “read lots of Colette” to get a feel for the period. [Vogue UK]
- Tamara Mellon is still giving the same soundbite about Jimmy Choo‘s improbable (but predictably hideous) collaboration with Ugg Australia: “It was really fun to work with them and put the DNA of Jimmy Choo into an Ugg boot. No matter who you are, what your income, everyone has a pair of Uggs. We’re also doing a great advertising campaign with them, showing how to wear Uggs in a Jimmy Choo world.” [WWD]
- Alexandra Shulman, the editor of British Vogue, has noticed that many women have come to loathe and fear those hot months magazines like hers refer to as “bikini season.” Shulman wonders, far too earnestly, why this may be so. We’d suggest she refer to bullet point 1. [Daily Mail]
- British Vogue copywatch, transpose that apostrophe edition: “Tods’ Diego Della Valle will receive the Brand Visionary award…Urban Outfitter’s Glen Senk will win the Corporate Leadership award.” It’s Tod’s and Outfitters, you morons. [Vogue UK]
- Sad: After Marc Jacobs told the British press at his London fragrance launch that he was not getting married, Lorenzo Martone confirmed, via Twitter, that he and the designer are no longer together. [Fashionologie]
- The private-equity firm that now owns Liberty of London also owns a private plastic surgery clinic and an Italian wholesale tire distributor. Liberty lost $8.1 million last year, but the new owners, who have invested around $12 million in the business on top of the $48 million in cash they paid for it, intend to return it to profitability this year. Among the new management’s strategies to make this happen is the idea to open a unisex spa for feet. “No one owns feet in London,” said Ed Burstell, the managing director of Liberty retail. “We want to be the ones.” [WWD]
- Diane von Furstenberg designed new costumes for the Rockettes and took them all the way to Vienna to perform at the Life Ball, but then the event was rained out. Luckily, this behind-the-scenes video of the show that never was survived. [The Cut]
- Alice Dellal took her top off while playing drums for her band, Thrush Metal. Scandalous. [Daily Mail]
- Zara opened three stores in India within the past five weeks. The flagship is a nearly 20,000 square foot store in a New Delhi mall. [WWD]
- Net-A-Porter‘s Natalie Massenet: “As for magazines vs. bloggers, the best content and most relevant will win. Magazines have the upper hand, but if they’re not using the medium, they’re missing out.” [Fashionista]
- Despite sales that fell 2.2% year-on-year for fiscal 2009, Wolford managed to increase its profits for the period by 106.1%, to $6.4 million, through cost-cutting. [WWD]
- Jessica White is reportedly seeing Sean Penn again. [P6]
- Gucci quickly won an injunction against Elisabetta Gucci, a member of the famous fashion clan who planned to enter the hotel business under the brand “EG by Elisabetta Gucci.” A judge has ordered Elisabetta Gucci to stop using her name for any advertising or business purpose, because it contains Gucci’s trademark.
