Rescue Mutt Named Peanut Crowned 'World's Ugliest Dog'

Latest

Petaluma, California has held a “World’s Ugliest Dog” contest for the past 26 years. This year, the masses have crowned Peanut, an ugly-adorable 2-year-old mutt “whose wild white and brown hair, bulging eyes and protruding teeth belie his sweet, energetic personality.”

Even better, according to the AP, Peanut is a rescue dog, who suffered serious burns as a puppy. His owner hopes that his victory will raise awareness of animal abuse.

The World’s Ugliest Dog competition every year is the time for dogs with too-large heads, completely hairless bodies, or other physical “flaws” that would make humans look ugly but which just add to the squee! factor when it comes to our canine friends. Past winners include this motley crew:

The past five winners have included a duck-footed beagle, boxer and basset hound mix with a waddle, a Chinese crested and Chihuahua mix with a protruding tongue and short tufts of hair and a Chihuahua with a missing eye and a camel’s back.

Because you no doubt can’t get enough of this adorable gremlin, here are all the high res photos that the AP has to offer of Peanut.
