If you’re Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee, you probably spend a good amount of time these days fielding angry phone calls and quietly wondering how hard it is, really, to just fake your own death and disappear. But sometimes you also have to go defend Donald Trump!
Following Trump’s wholly unconvincing taco bowl peace gesture to the Latino community, Priebus, during a Politico Q&A, insisted: “He’s trying.”
The crowd giggled mercilessly as Priebus added, “I’ll tell you what, I honestly think he understands that building and unifying and growing the party is the only way we’re gonna win.”
While we’re not saying this is what Reince is doing right now, we will say that—if we were Reince Priebus, we’d certainly begin every morning with several shots and a light-to-medium dusting of pain meds before we faced the day. Politico did gift him with a bottle of Bailey’s, which he accepted with a limp laugh that turned into a grimace.
