Congress Wants Barron Trump to Answer Questions About Andrew Tate

Like your typical nepo-baby, Barron Trump seemed perfectly happy keeping a low profile—launching an off-the-grid yerba mate company, walking the White House lawn, and (mostly) avoiding the political circus. But now, he’s being pulled into one of the biggest scandals surrounding Donald Trump’s inner circle. On Sunday, Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-Ariz.) called on the president’s youngest son to testify before Congress over his reported ties to Andrew and Tristan Tate—a pair of loud and proud “misogynist” influencers facing criminal cases on both sides of the Atlantic.
Rep. Ansari is urging the rest of the House Oversight Committee to investigate whether anyone in Trump’s orbit played a role in helping the Tate brothers. As part of that request, she says Barron should answer questions about his reported relationship with the brothers and any communications he may have had with them.
This request isn’t coming out of nowhere. Over the past year, reports have suggested Barron helped introduce his father to parts of the online “manosphere”—the hyper-masculine podcast ecosystem that became a surprisingly powerful force in Trump’s 2024 campaign. Several reports have also alleged Barron communicated with Andrew Tate and texted him, and one of Tate’s pals, influencer Justin Waller, has even called Barron “the third Tate brother.”
And the reminder that Barron and Andrew are BFFs is especially awkward for Trump World.
Just days ago, Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested in Florida on a U.K. extradition warrant for 59 total charges. They include rape, human trafficking, assault, and offenses involving indecent images of children. The brothers deny all of the allegations and are also battling separate criminal cases in Romania. You all probably saw the viral videos of Andrew Tate being arrested on his way to a boxing match in a questionable, purple, pimp suit.
Since his arrest, Andrew Tate has taken to social media to complain about being held in solitary confinement, claiming he’s been denied recreation time, that his neighbor in prison is eating the peeling paint of the walls while he himself is reading (and clearly posting on X) by “the slitter of a street lamp.” Who gave him a phone in there?!
But the Tate brothers’ ties to Trump go well beyond Barron.
Donald Trump Jr. has publicly defended Andrew Tate in the past, criticizing Romanian authorities over his detention before later appearing with him on a livestream. Don Jr. called the charges “absolute insanity.” Vice President JD Vance also follows Andrew Tate on Twitter, a connection that’s received renewed attention as Democrats question just how close the Trump movement has become to one of the internet’s most polarizing influencers.
And of course there are claims that the Trump administration helped the Tate brothers escape Romania, where they were under house arrest and facing criminal charges, to come to Florida in 2025, right after Trump became president.
As we reported then, Andrew had barely landed in Florida when he said, “I’m very close with the Trump family. I know them well. I spoke to Barron after the incident [that is, the July assassination attempt on Trump’s life in Butler, Pennsylvania]. I look forward to once I’m free being with Donald Trump in person, and reminding him that he’s a bulletproof badass.”
Whether Barron ever actually ends up on Capitol Hill is another question entirely, however. Republicans control the House Oversight Committee, making it highly unlikely Ansari’s request goes anywhere… for now.
Still, the fact that a sitting president’s teenage son is even being mentioned in connection with a congressional inquiry into Andrew Tate says a lot about how deeply the manosphere has become intertwined with Republican politics. That’s a conversation that isn’t going away anytime soon.
