Hairspray Live isn’t airing until December 7, but little talent breadcrumbs keep getting dropped to lead us through the entertainment famine of August. There are so many characters in Hairspray, so these announcements will make for tasty morsels for the rest of fall and summer. Yum!
Joining a cast that includes Ariana Grande as Penny and Kristin Chenoweth as Velma Von Tussle, Rosie O’Donnell will be playing the Gym Teacher, originally brought to life by Kathleen Wallace. This is not a character I remembered even though I watched Hairspray maybe five hundred times as a kid.
Sean Hayes will be playing Mr. Pinky, owner of Hefty Hideaway, purveyor of donuts and plus size clothing.
