EPA administrator and plastic Bad Guy action figure Scott Pruitt had a private meeting with Dow Chemicals CEO Andrew Liveris a few weeks before he announced that he would be denying a petition to ban Dow’s chlorpyrifos pesticide from being sprayed on food. EPA scientists have concluded that ingesting even tiny amounts of Chlorpyrifos can interfere with fetus and infant brain development; it’s also an organophosphate, which was found—again, by federal scientists—to be harmful to 1,800 critically endangered/threatened species. Pruitt’s spokesperson denied that the pair discussed the pesticide during their meeting, but considering Liveris literally held the pen next to Trump at the signing of a previous anti-regulatory executive order, that’s tough to imagine.
