Shoeless Airport Security Checks May Be Coming To An End

Latest

Finally, there’s a bit of good news on the airport security front. Eventually we may be able to enjoy the luxury of keeping our shoes on while being screened. Yesterday Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told Politico:

“We are moving towards an intelligence and risk-based approach to how we screen … I think one of the first things you will see over time is the ability to keep your shoes on. One of the last things you will [see] is the reduction or limitation on liquids … The solution to many if not all of these inconveniences is better and better technology.”

Napolitano didn’t elaborate on how we’ll be ensuring the safety of our footwear in the future, but it seems we’re nowhere near figuring out how to distinguish between shampoo and explosives.
