Supreme Court Denies Troy Davis' Appeal, Execution Will Go Forward [UPDATED]
LatestTroy Davis was scheduled to be executed at 7 p.m. today for the 1989 killing of a police officer in Georgia. Many believe he should be granted clemency because there isn’t enough physical evidence linking him to the crime and after his trial witnesses recanted and said police threatened them. Davis’ attorneys made a last-ditch effort to save his life by asking the Supreme Court for a stay of execution, but the court denied his motion about 20 minutes ago. Georgia officials are expected to proceed with the lethal injection. People protesting outside the prison where Davis is being held are chanting, “We are Troy Davis.”
UPDATE: Davis was executed at 11:08 p.m.
