The Book Of Jezebel: G Is For Girl Scout
LatestAs you may have heard, on October 22nd we’ll be publishing our first book, a 300-page, hardcover, illustrated encyclopedia called The Book of Jezebel. In honor of this milestone —which took many years and dozens of contributors to execute—we’ll be posting one entry from the book a day, starting with “A” and continuing on through to “Z.” Although the book itself has already been printed — it’s gorgeous — questions, additions, annotations and suggestions on the entries that appear online are welcomed and encouraged.
Girl Scout
Member of an association of young girls who don green skirts, sashes, and berets and are socialized to be model citizens through training in first aid, sport, art, craft, and survival, for which they accumulate various insignia. Better than the Boy Scouts because they accept gays, trans people and atheists, but not without their traditional gender hangups—one academic study of Scouts badges found that Boy Scouts’ awards are more focused on science, and Girl Scouts’, art; Boy Scouts’, solitary badges, Girl Scouts’, communal ones; Boy Scouts’, stoicism, Girl Scouts’, playfulness; Girl Scouts’, literary pursuits, Boy Scouts’, practical ones; Boy Scouts’, careers, Girl Scouts’, hobbies.
